Our History

In 1941 Wilf Brader and his family came to Little Grimsby as a tenant dairy and chicken farmer and also had a number of combines to contract harvest. Unfortunately Manor Farm was known to be one of the wettest farms in the area, this coupled with the harvest season diminishing to about three weeks. In 1948 Wilf and twin brother Cyril (inset picture) decided to sell the combines and venture into land drainage to make the work last all year round. Brader Bros Land Drainage was born.

The first machine was a winched digger, then over the years the technology progressed through Howard Rotary Hoe’s, Alan Trenching machine’s in 1967 (Pictured) to Vanendene’s in the 70’s to the present day Mastenbroek. This latest machine uses laser technology to control the depth of the trench sixty times a minute.

The brothers continued with the business through the years striving to keep up with the latest machines and techniques. Wilf’s son Mick now runs Braders Land Drainage, starting at the age of 15 straight from school in 1961. He eventually took the reins in 1974. Mick’s sister Margaret was brought in by Dad in 1975 to run the office. The latest member of the family to join is Margaret’s son James who also started straight from school at the age of 16 in 1990.

The business is now going from strength to strength and looks forward to providing many more years of quality service.
